I know I say this all the time, but I am always astounded by the kindness and generosity of the blogging/online community I am a part of. I’ve engaged with many people online, made some wonderful, life long kinds of friendships even. I’ve participated in swaps here and there, but each time I do swap with someone, I am always touched by the incredible talent people have and the time and effort they put into their crafts. A couple of months back I saw Yanic’s husband’s gorgeous hand carved Father Christmas / Winter Wizard figurines. I wanted one of my very own, so I offered to buy one. Yanic suggested we swap for goods and of course I was all over it!! I made her a peg doll family and she sent over a whole host of goodies. The incredible Winter Wizard, which now sits in a place of honor in our family room, a gorgeous crocheted dish cloth that’s already getting so much use and some lip balm that Yanic made. Yanic’s sweet daughter also drew Ellie a picture, which Ellie adored (she drew one right back, so mail is headed your way Yanic).
The whole package was just beautiful and touching, as well as the note she sent with it. I am honored to have a piece of Yanic in my home now. Thank you Yanic!!!
For Yanic’s peg dolls, she requested I do them in their winter gear. I loved the idea and tried my best. I hope she likes them.
It’s so hard for me to photograph my peg dolls. It’s hard to see all the little bits I’ve painted on. But this photo gives you the gist. They are a cute, winter family (baby complete with paci) ! ๐
As for Peg doll projects for the shop and for special orders, I’ve just finished this “Peg and Cat” doll and mat set. We don’t watch the show so, I had to do a bit of research. They turned out pretty darn cute and the mat was a little different from what I normally do, but it was a joy to make. I’m hoping their recipient loves them as much as Ellie did. Even though she had never seen the show, she asked me for her own Peg and Cat play set.
The other big project I have been working on is a set of angel peg dolls for a custom order. Each angel represents a holiday.
And one more Angel for lost pets…
These were so much fun to come up with and make. I quilted each set of wings and then attached them with a bit of glue. I hope they are well-loved.
I have many more orders I’m working on getting done…. and then I will be making a few pegs for Ellie and her friends before Valentines Day.
What projects are you working on?
Oh, I’m so thrilled the package got to you safe and sound. So happy you are pleased. We loved putting the package together for you guys. And I’m SOOO excited for our little peg family, they are just perfect! Nevaeh will be so happy with a letter back from Ellie! She just loves having penpals. Maybe Ellie would like some news from Canada every once in a while?
It’s been so wonderful to get to know you. Maybe we could meet in person soon. We are planning a trip to California in 2 years to visit my husband’s brother in the SD area. Wouldn’t that be fun!
Wishing you a beautiful day. xox
Also : AWESOME Peg + Cat! My daughter loves the show. We don’t have TV, but when we have some screen time, I stream that show for her, she is just tickled.
so lovely!! that wizard is so beautiful. i completely agree about the lovely online community and the swapping… it is all so wonderful ๐ those new pegs (and the mat) are absolutely adorable!! i love them all so much! you are very talented summer. i haven’t been crafting very much lately… everything that i’ve done recently i posted on the blog… the doll dresses and those sea shell stamps. i have been itching to get back to it all though. we have been doing some work around the house. which really needed to be done, and is somewhat exciting and fulfilling… but not quite in the same way ๐
So many wonderful things you’ve thought of and gone on to create. I loved making the gramma peg doll but could I have a photo of it by itself sometime when you have time to photograph it please? And also, I know you made my gramma doll but somehow she has lost one of her pencils in the pocket. I don’t eat popsicles so don’t quite know what to use in place of those, perhaps you have an idea of something we have up here to cut up for more so her pocket looks like an artsts’ pocket?
With all our woods you’d think I could think of something but so far nope. I’ll keep looking around but if you have extras, maybe stick a couple in a note card one day soon, okay? Or email me. Love you, love your blogs. Obviously.
Neat peg dolls! It would be so much fun to expand the idea of your swap. I would totally be in! I made one a few months using colored pencils instead of paint and a seed-top for a hat. They’re fun to make.
