We had a really nice weekend. The weather was warm and breezy. Jeff had a slow work week, so we got chores done on Friday, which meant more time to enjoy the weekend. Saturday was a special bacon and egg breakfast, with homemade biscuits and fruit! (Those darling napkin holders are from here.) We took a little walk to the seals and then met up for an impromptu afternoon at the beach with friends. Sunday we walked downtown, rode bikes and I got in a little painting and crafting. A quick but very nice weekend. I’m looking forward to next weekend. We are hosting a little Easter/Spring brunch for my family and I’m sure it will be a fun day!

eloise: you want to be big so bad and do everything on your own, but then there are those times when you just want to be carried and cuddled and you tell us, “I’m not ready to be big. I’m still little.” Yes you are my child. Don’t grow up too fast.

Weekending ( and a little recap)

Last week we celebrated my Mom’s birthday and had ourselves a boiled dinner. Usually Jeff’s Mom cooks the St. Patty’s Day meal (they’ve been out here twice during the season), but this year they weren’t with us, so I called her up instead, wrote down the Langille instructions and went to work. Of course, Jeff helped me a little bit and Ellie helped make Irish soda bread as well. It was a delicious dinner. The next day we surprised my mom for her birthday and brought her a painting I’ve been working on. It’s the largest painting I’ve ever done. I kind of feel like it’s not quite finished, even after I decided I was “finished”, but my Mom seemed to love it as is. When we were kids, she always had a full row of potted African Violets on the kitchen counter. So of course, I thought African Violets would be perfect in a painting for her.

As for this weekend, we spent Saturday doing chores. Grandpa came over and spent an afternoon walking the beach with us. (Gramma was out-of-town for the weekend).

The beach was a lot of fun. Because of the warm weather, there were lots of people out and about. Sunday we visited with old friends, spent some time working in the garden and ended the evening early. Looking forward to all that Spring has to offer!! Happy week and Spring to you my friends!!

Weekending!

A St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Our third year going (here is last year and the year before, because it’s so much fun looking back). A Birthday Party for Ellie’s best friend (who happens to love Peter Pan too, thus the “hook”). And a Sunday, to catch up on chores and enjoy some fantastic sunsets.

eloise: Today we went to the St. Patrick’s Day parade. This was your third year going but, the first year you were truly excited about the whole thing. I made you a little lucky clover top (you requested a rainbow pocket) and turned a large tie dye shirt into a fun and funky skirt for you. When we got downtown, you anxiously jumped around in your seat and then exclaimed, “I’m so excited for this parade! I’ve been waiting so long.” It was a whole new experience, going with our little girl (instead of our “baby”).

Catching up

It’s been very difficult finding time to blog. I definitely do not want to stop writing in this space. I love the documentation it provides, but it’s getting harder and harder to keep up with all the crafting and day-to-day chores and mothering of a young, active child (who sometimes refuses to nap). So here’s a little catch up post. What we’ve been up to these days, through quick blurbs and photos.
chickens
lots of painting going on these days. I dream about painting, I see hills and flowers when we are out and about and want to run home to paint them. It has become my daily happy work, to paint one thing (if not more) every day.
custo orders
I have had a few custom peg doll orders. A set of seasonal pegs, a bride and groom, angels and more.
project
I’ve also been working on a project with peg dolls and nature and stories. I’m not so sure I even know where it’s all going, but when I do have time to work on it, I enjoy every minute.
swaps
We’ve been receiving lots of swap goodies in the mail lately. I had a few weeks where I joined several Waldorf FB group swaps and went a little crazy with the crafting. Well, we are now receiving all of our wonderful items in return. Ellie has been enjoying setting up new scenarios and playing with all of these wonderfully made, beautiful toys.
garden
We’ve been slowly working on getting our garden back in order. Ellie and I planted seeds a couple of weeks ago, cleared out the raised beds and are making our way back into the garden on a daily basis.
etsy
I did a stocking of my Etsy store with little Easter/Spring time softies. Most of these have gone to new homes, but there are still a few more left and I think I may do one more batch before Easter.
whey
I’ve been in the kitchen more these days. I’m sure you all know Jeff is the cook around these parts, but I’m trying some new things out too. I finally made cheese for the first time! Something that’s been on my to do list for years.
ricotta
It turned out delicious and we even used it in a pasta dish! We’ve also started making pretzels on a weekly basis. It’s been a fun activity to do with Ellie. I’m going to have to do a whole other blog post about them though, they are just too good not to share our process with you!

so there you have it…. a little update. There’s lots more I’d love to share with you, but that will have to do for now. I have more painting and cleaning to do and only a wee bit of time to do it in, before this darling child wakes from her nap.

Weekending!

This weekend I got to participate in a real live craft swap (so far they’ve only been online). I made several “tea for two” sets that included a hand embroidered spring sheep mug rug, two hand stamped linen napkins and of course some tea in a little paper pouch. I received some lovely goodies in return too.

It was nice getting together with some crafty ladies, eating yummy homemade food and chatting about babies and birth and of course, crafts.

The rest of the weekend was a slow one. We stayed close to home because Jeff was feeling under the weather. We spent Sunday afternoon enjoying the beachy weather. And I got to finish a dress for myself and a little spring top for Ellie.

I’m finding children’s clothes are far more forgiving than busty adult women clothes. But, even if I may look like I’m five months pregnant (which I am definitely NOT), I’m still loving wearing clothes that I made for myself. And I’m hoping that if I keep at it, my skills will get better and they will fit me a little better. In the mean time, I’ll enjoy my creations for what they are, comfortable and, I think, pretty darn cute.

Happy Week to you friends!!

Weekending!

What a beautiful weekend we had! The weather was glorious! A perfect way to welcome March. So spring like, I had to switch out our play and nature tables. They just couldn’t go another day being “winter”. I know pretty much everywhere else its white and snowy and cold, but it’s been very springy here and our tables needed to reflect that. Anyway, I came down with a little head cold, so between “required” resting (which I hate to do) and little outings here and there, it was still such a nice weekend. Yesterday’s beach walk was quite spectacular. The sky was amazing and the sea was a color blue I had never seen before. We searched for sea glass, skipped stones, and enjoyed the weather. Happy Week to everyone!
