40/52eloise: It’s been a trying couple weeks. Lots of big emotions. Lots of tears. Lots of no napping. Lots of extra nursing. I can’t seem to pin point why, maybe it’s the extreme heat wave we are having, maybe it’s more teeth breaking through, maybe it’s getting back into the routine again after being away on vacation; but I’m thinking it probably has to do with just the hard fact that you are two. And two is tough. But throughout those days of big emotions and challenging behaviors, there are moments like this that make everything all right. Late afternoons, right before dinner when laundry and toys are strewn all over the house and Mama can’t deal with anything else, we go outside and run around. I chase you and you chase me. We twirl and run and laugh and smile.

39/52eloise: Some days we enjoy each other’s company immensely. We glide through the rhythm of the day and happily float into the night. Other days we disconnect and struggle with keeping that balance. I think this is what toddler hood and the beginnings of independence are all about. Days of watercolor painting and frozen yogurt pops. Days of constant frustration and anxious nursing. Days of weary and Days of joy. Together we are finding our balance.

33/52eloise: We planted this sunflower months ago from a seed in a cup, we got at library storytime. This week it finally bloomed. It felt a bit symbolic to me, waiting to bloom a week after you turned two. The reminder that you are growing and blossoming as well as the world around you. Blossom and grow my little one, just not too quickly.

“A Two Year Old”
A two-year old is so many things
a tiny discoverer of butterfly wings.
A hugger of teddies, a sweet sleepy head.
And someone to dream for in bright years ahead.
A special new person who right from the start,
has a place in the family and a coarse in your heart.
And just when you think you’ve learned all the things,
that you dear daughter is, and the joy that she brings,
a hug or a grin comes with such a sweet surprise,
that love finds you smiling with tears in your eyes.
