42/52eloise: you are looking more and more like a little kid and less like my baby these days. You want to put your shoes on and pick out your clothes all by yourself. You get quiet and sullen when you are feeling uncomfortable or sad. You throw your toys or roll around on the ground when you’re angry. You tell me “I yuv you Mama.” And hold tight to my neck when I pick you up. You tell me, “Milk makes me happy Mama.”

You helped pick Dada’s pumpkin and you found the perfect little one for you. Then you wanted to find one for Pink Baby too. I’m often bone tired at the end of the day with the non stop play and emotions and struggles this age brings. But, I am seeing a little person forming here. A sweet, spunky, loving, determined little person. And I’m just so blessed to be watching you grow.

41/52eloise: you sit in your room with a band-aid in your hand. We had walked all the way to the store on a very hot afternoon to buy you some band aids that you had requested after falling down and scraping your knee. When we bought them, you didn’t want to put one on your boo boo. In fact, you seemed frightened by the idea, that just seconds before, you had been giddy about. So we walked all the way back home carrying the box of band aids and you sat in your room holding them. Carrying them around like little paper princess medals (you chose the pink princess ones, of course). Once you figured out how to open one, you were eager to open them all. But put one on your boo boo? No way. They go on top of your pants, that way everyone can see where you have a wound. 😉

39/52eloise: Some days we enjoy each other’s company immensely. We glide through the rhythm of the day and happily float into the night. Other days we disconnect and struggle with keeping that balance. I think this is what toddler hood and the beginnings of independence are all about. Days of watercolor painting and frozen yogurt pops. Days of constant frustration and anxious nursing. Days of weary and Days of joy. Together we are finding our balance.

Portrait Project: 37 and 38

37/52
37/52eloise: Some days you wake up from your nap, happy and playful and adorable. Today we cuddled in bed for an hour, being silly, telling stories, talking about our upcoming trip to Boston, took cute photos. Then we headed downstairs to finish what was left of the day.

(and because I was offline this past week, I’m finally getting around to posting last week’s portrait, taking on my iPhone and this week’s portrait, from our time in New Hampshire and Boston).

38/52
38/52eloise: This was minutes after we had gotten settled at the campground in New Hampshire. We headed to the beach, you were still in pj’s from the night before and when you saw the lake and the little beach, you dove right in. Literally, dove right into the water, clothes and all. Your Dada had to scoop you out. You spent the rest of the day happily jumping in and out of the water, playing on the beach with Nana and catching frogs with your Auntie Lindsey. You are certainly one with wilderness my child.

“A Two Year Old”
A two-year old is so many things
a tiny discoverer of butterfly wings.
A hugger of teddies, a sweet sleepy head.
And someone to dream for in bright years ahead.
A special new person who right from the start,
has a place in the family and a coarse in your heart.
And just when you think you’ve learned all the things,
that you dear daughter is, and the joy that she brings,
a hug or a grin comes with such a sweet surprise,
that love finds you smiling with tears in your eyes.

eloise: we saw the hot air balloons for the second year. Last year you were curled up close to me in the wrap. This year you were exploring them right along with us. What a day and night we had. We saw a few balloons in the morning and then decided to come back at night (past your bedtime) to see all the balloons lit up in the night sky. It was both exciting and exhilarating for you. And you did amazingly well up so late. A very special night for both you and your Mama and Daddy.
