Portrait Project 2014

1/52

1/52

eloise: It’s the first week of January. This is the first portrait of the New Year. You’ll be seventeen months this coming week. You love climbing up on the couch now (what you did before I snapped this photo). You love your “Pink Baby (PB)”. You are still working on getting those teeth in. You are ridiculous adorable, if I do say so myself.

“a portrait of Eloise, once a week, every week in 2014”

* I’m thrilled to be partaking in Jodi’s 52 project for a second year now. Oh what fun the first year was and what a memento we have with our 52 project book. I’m looking forward to documenting Ellie’s weeks this way and looking forward to how I will develop with my photography skills this year as well.

A Special Book

A special book made up of 52 weeks of photos arrived today! It’s such a lovely keepsake and I’m so glad I decided to go with a bigger book* than I usually go with. I spent one very, very late night working on putting this book together so we could have it for the New Year. I did not have anything organized prior to the other night and will do that very differently for the next 52 Project. My disorganization sure did make for a late night of cutting and pasting and retyping and trying to find the matching photos. But, the book got done, Ellie loves it and we spent the day enjoying the photos and the memories of last year.

* After much deliberation (or lack of time and organization, I went with Shutterfly (and their basic model in a 10 x 10 size … I wanted the photos to be the focus). Originally, I was planning on going with some one different and a little more artsy, but Shutterfly was easy and quick, I had worked with their products before and I had two coupons too (you can’t beat coupons). I’m very happy with the product.

Balance in 2014

white rose

I’ve chosen my word for the New Year. I loved the idea of having a guiding word and using it to help define what I wanted to work on and strive toward this year. I played around with “create”, I pondered using “patience” or “ease”, but nothing really stood out as the word.  When discussing words with my husband, I realized one word kept creeping up in my vocabulary and as I bent down to put my shoes on for our morning walk, I lost my balance and almost fell flat on my face. That was what I needed, I needed more “balance”. A word holding multiple meanings. Balance of a physical nature, balance of being wife and mother, balance of being creative but still being present. Balance of mind. Balance of spirit. I held it in my palms and smiled at its meaning. I cradled it and I whispered to it. I’m excited to make it my mantra for 2014.  I really have never had a word for the year before and the concept has me already excited for what it may bring.

Do you have a “guiding word”? Or any resolutions this year? Check out Mama Scout and Rebecca’s posts for inspiration.
