Weekending

This weekend we celebrated my Dad’s birthday. My mom,  my siblings and their significant others and Jeff and Ellie and I were there. Lots of good food and treats and excitement.  The morning though was spent at a friend’s house for a mama book club. We discussed The Book of Joe. (A really light and good read). The host had cold brew coffee and home cooked scones and four of us enjoyed some kid free time, discussing all sorts of topics. It was a very lovely morning!

Sunday, Jeff and Ellie made blueberry turnovers and we spent the afternoon doing chores and managing a very moody almost 3-year-old.

How was your weekend?

A BBQ with friends, a very warm day at the farmers market, a little bit of kiddie pool time (I know, I know, we should be conserving water… we used it to water the garden afterwards though). Eating tomatoes straight from the garden. Movie nights and weary late nights trying to get this rascal of a child to sleep. A busy, nice summer weekend.

So I’m feeling much better after my dental surgery last week. But, we’ve been dealing with a much more horrendous issue at hand. Rats! Rats, and even worse, their mites. It’s been quite the nightmarish week, discovering rats under the house and getting bitten by mites. The house has been stripped of everything. The laundry has been non stop and everything smells of chemicals, in a house that’s been fine with my more natural products up till now. Of course all of this has my anxiety soaring, but luckily I have a husband who keeps me calm and parents not too far away, to get away from it all for a while. We’re having more pest control people coming over this coming week as well as tree trimmers (to make sure the rats aren’t climbing trees to the roof. It’s been a bit crazy here and I didn’t even think I wanted to write about it in this space, because, come on… gross… rats and bugs…. but, I try to keep it as real as possible and this is as real as it gets unfortunately.
We did have a little bit of fun though this weekend. We got out of the house on Saturday and spent the morning at the Earth Day festival up in Ojai. So I’ll leave you with those happy photos and spare you anymore buggy or ratty details…

Weekending!

This weekend started out a bit wet. So of course we went out in search of puddles to stomp in. We collected leaves and brought them home to make a leaf collage. We read leaf books and made leaf rubbings. We’re soaking in the Autumn weather before California gets the better of it and warms up again (as is always the case). We went to a good friend’s birthday party and brought her a  peg doll family. Saturday we went to my parents and took a nice long walk with my brother and his girlfriend. Ellie ran off some energy and climbed trees. We even saw a coyote skitter down the wash.
Halfway through Sunday, Ellie all of a sudden came down with a miserable cold. So we’ve been laying low ever since. Lots of good reading, building train depots, wrapping up baby dolls and some quiet time watching Frozen. Hoping this cold is a quick one so we can enjoy our days a little more again.

Weekending!

This weekend started out with some baking and ended with lots of sewing at Gramma and Grandpa’s house. I’m trying to get Jeff’s quilt finished before Christmas, but this thing is so big!! In between, we lounged around, Jeff and Ellie made Saturday morning pancakes, and we visited the park a few times (sometimes with dogs and child and sometimes with just child in tow). A very nice, quiet weekend. How was yours?

Weekending

This weekend I had a little garage sale. Made a few bucks but passed a lot more on to Goodwill. We stumbled upon a Halloween event downtown and just so happened to have Ellie’s “Ana cape” with us, so we joined the fun. Sunday was food shopping, family bike rides and afternoon trips to the park. This weekend went by way to quickly for my taste. How was your weekend? Everyone ready for Halloween?

This weekend we went to Ojai Day  which happens to be a neighboring town for us. It was a vibrant, colorful festival of the town itself, with local artisans (@finchleystitches is the lovely embroidered art pictured here) and music, animals for the children to see and an incredible display of yarn bombing, that was just spectacular to see. The rest of the weekend was spent doing chores and taking it easy. How was your weekend?

A morning at the pumpkin patch. We had planned to take a drive to a bigger farm and patch that day but things didn’t quite work out, so we headed about 5 minutes away to our local patch. It was another very hot weekend, so it was a sweaty and quick trip to the pumpkin patch this year, but I think Ellie enjoyed herself very much. We visited with the animals, picked our pumpkins and got to take a hay ride to the original part of the farm. The end of the day was spent with the grandparents (who helped Ellie carve her pumpkin) and for dessert, some festive brew served in a cinnamon sugar rimmed glass.
The rest of the weekend was for laundry and rest and catching up on odds and ends.

*Just for fun, Last year’s pumpkin patch visit, the year before that!
