Old Friends

Over the weekend I had my oldest, dearest friends over for a girls brunch. These girls and I have been friends for quite some time, some of us going on twenty years! (My that makes me feel old). I have made many memories with this group of girls, or women as we have grown up to become. We have all come a long way from when we all met. Now that we’re older and living our own lives, it’s difficult to always get together like we so often did when we were young. I have found we all walk different paths, hold different careers and sometimes differ in what we believe in but this is a loyal bunch and we’ve stayed connected. It’s a special thing to belong to a group like this and I treasure our times together.

I have always prided myself on being the memory keeper, the one with the pictures, the scrapbooks, the video clips, documenting our friendship; documenting the days of song and dance, of travels, of celebration. We spent the day eating good food, drinking afternoon mimosas and then hot tea, playing with the littlest of the groups children, discussing the futures of the ones yet to be born, chatting about new jobs and aspirations for current careers and spending plenty of time laughing and smiling over the many memories we’ve made together. It was a good day.

long day

It was a packed, busy weekend. The weather cooperated beautifully though and was breezy but sunny. There were quiche’s and orange pound cakes made for a girls brunch at my house. Wonderful friends came on saturday for a lovely day of chatting, good food and reminiscing. Sunday we got up late because of the time change, spending a nice morning walk along a path above the beach with the in-laws who are still in town and then hurrying off to a first birthday party at another lovely local in a park that looked out on the coastline. I finished another handmade owl for the little birthday girl and I think I’m getting better. They are getting faster and sturdier. The long weekend ended with a long nap for baby. It was a busy but lovely March weekend. How was yours?

Eloise: You are a drooly mess these days but no teeth. No little buds, no nothing… except for drool. Lot’s of drool and lots of nursing. I’m keeping the teethers stocked!Ā

I can’t believe we are already into week 10 with this project. I am learning a lot about my camera. Enjoying taking it everywhere with me and capturing the little moments in my family’s lives.

I loved baby Cecily this week and her adorable outfit. This take on the project was simply lovely. And Loved the colors in this shot.

Bits of Spring

Spring is in the air. I can feel it. There are buds on the trees, daffodils blooming, my winter garden is suddenly getting heavier with produce and those peas have begun to sprout. I’m smelling the lush, sweet scent of jasmine everywhere and I’m getting the urge to clean, organize and dress areas of my home up in lighter colors.

Eloise’s Monthly Photo

ellie 7 mo

Ellie Boo Bear you are seven months old today! This has certainly been a month of milestones for you. You’ve been trying food and sitting up unassisted and scooting all over the place. We switched you out of your infant car seat and we’re crossing our fingers you like riding in the car better in this new, bigger car seat. You love when we sing to you and are starting to wave when people wave at you. You are our sunshine and we are loving watching you grow!

*I will be taking a picture of Eloise against her Gramma-made blanket, with her bunny every month till her first birthday.

Daddy Wears Her

My mom found this picture of my Dad wearing me in a baby carrier when I was maybe a year old. I fell in love with the picture and it now has a home perched on top of a shelf displayed in our family room. I guess it just speaks to me with all the babywearing we have done with Ellie and how important babywearing has been to us in these early months with her. My dad is and always has been a fantastic father but I didn’t peg him for being the babywearing type and to see this picture of my young father smiling ear to ear with a very happy mini me on his back just makes me warm and fuzzy all over. It reminds me of my wonderful husband and how he has taken so much to wearing Ellie on our daily walks with the dogs or out and about the town. Ellie loves being in the carriers. She dislikes riding in the stroller and needs to be very close to us the majority of her days. So, from her first few weeks of life we have used carriers to keep her secure and feeling safe and she seems to be happy as a clam as long as she’s pressed up against one of us. I love that she is so happy riding along with us and the picture of me and my Dad just reminds me of how special babywearing can be. I hope Ellie looks back on the pictures of Jeff wearing her in a carrier with fondness too one day. I know Ellie’s Daddy feels very connected any time he wears her in a carrier and what’s more special than the bond between a Daddy and his baby girl?

March is here! Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit to a new month! After a pretty tiring and non-productive first week of March with a teething baby who was needing Mama a whole lot more than normal, the weekend finally came. As quickly as it came, it was gone. Jeff took his parents hiking on the Channel Islands while Ellie and I went yard-sailing with my parents. We spent lots of time outside. It was so warm, I made sun tea. More plans for our garden were made including plans for a tomato raised bed. Ellie is enjoying all sorts of new skills (sitting and reaching, scooting around) and chewing on everything (including Gramma’s chin). Ā Shrimp scampi made by the husband ended the weekend right. It went fast and I didn’t get nearly as much done as I would have liked but there’s always next weekend. Right? How was your weekend?

(I couldn’t pick just one of these this week. If I had my way I would have put like seven more. But, I nailed it down to these three and I just couldn’t chose).

Eloise: This little outfit came in the mail from your great grandmother this week. You are very lucky to have two great grandmothers who love you very much and send you lovely, beautiful things, sometimes for no occasion at all. Mama thought you looked just precious in this outfit. I have a feeling this one will be made into a baby clothes quilt one day. šŸ™‚

– joining Jodi for the 52 project! Please check out the other photos too. I am having so much fun looking at everyone’s amazing photos every week. It’s my new sunday late night ritual when Ellie has gone to sleep. Last week I loved this glamour shot, the colors and silliness in this one, and goldilocks herself in this one.
